The Synics' music
Selections from The Synics two CDs.
Things Can Change
Pat Mahr sings lead on this angular old ditty from "The Synics Are". At once grungy and poignant this remains a popular Synics tune live.
Why
From their brand new release "The Petrarch Loop", Why is a catchy pop tune and is written by the whole band plus their writing friend, Tim Joyce.
Falling Away From Me
This is another new tune from "The Petrarch Loop". In a fine traditional rock fashion, this song starts with quiet acoustic guitars and mandolin and ends up with heavy electric instruments and processed vocals.
No Free Ride
A band favorite, this tune from the first album is a live-off-the-floor (as were almost all the tunes from The Synics Are) big riff extravaganza. It has a slightly unsettled feel due to the fact the drums play in 4/4 and the rest of the band in 6/4.
Postscript
The closing song on The Petrarch Loop, Postscript is a melancholy acoustic number.
Open Your Eyes
This piece was originally written for a film adaptation of Lord Jim that came to naught. Linda Montford makes an appearance playing sax here.
Does She Love Me?
Another acoustic number, this time with Pat on Bodhran and Chris on various percussion devices like rain-stick, Udu and talking drum where we ask the age-old flower tearing apart questions.
Just Because I Can
A Beatle-esque rocker from "The Petrach Loop." While "The Synics" are a guitar-driven band, they have few guitar solos but when they do put one in, it is always worth a listen!
